| BARN BLOCK CHALLENGE |
| 1. Barn must be red faric; sky must be blue fabric; everyone must use this block pattern for their barn block. The inside block may be any block pattern you would like. If your block has a name please let everyone know the name of the block. 2. Please acknowledge by either e-mail ( kellykat41@yahoo.com ) or calling Dorothy Kelly or Peggy Pyle if you are going to participate. 3. The deadline for the block is February 16, 2012. Make a 6 1/2" unfinished barn block (the center block) of your choice. To Make the Barn you will need: From the Red Fabric: 1 - 4 5/8" x 12 5/8" rectangle 2 - 3 1/2" x 8 1/2" rectangles 1 - 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangles From the Blue Fabric: 2 - 7" squares Sewing the Barn: 1. Place the 7" square on the left side of the red 4 5/8" x 12 5/8" rectangle right sides together, matching the upper left corners and left sides. Draw a line starting at the right corner of the blue square and to the bottom left corner of the red rectangle. See diagram. Sew on the drawn line. Trim excess fabric and press toward blue. 2. Place the 7" square on the right side of the red 4 5/8" x 12 5/8" rectangle right sides together, matching the upper right corners and right sides. Draw a line starting at the left corner of the blue square and to the bottom right corner of the red rectangle. Sew on drawn line. Trim excess fabric and press toward blue. Square to 4 1/2" x 12 1/2" 3. Sew the red 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangle to the bottom of your 6 12" barn block. Press to red rectangle. 4. Sew a red 3 1/2" x 8 1/2" rectangle to each side of the unit from Step 3. Press to red rectangles. 5. Sew the unit from Step 2 to the top of the unit from Step 4. Press to top. Square to 12 1/2". CONGRATULATIONS - YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR BARN BLOCK!! |
